About REDD+

What is REDD+

Recognizing the importance of tropical forests in global climate change mitigation efforts, REDD+ projects were designed by the UN to compensate tropical forest countries for reducing emissions from degradation and deforestation.

REDD+ projects generate carbon offsets through activities which ‘Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks’ -UN

Undisturbed forest acts as a sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide. Tropical forests are home to about half of the world‟s species and their continued loss creates large and potentially irreversible loss of biodiversity. Moreover, the livelihood of millions of people depends on the rich array of ecosystem services tropical forests provide.

Our REDD+ projects will be certified by Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). This is the main worldwide standard providing assurance of the quality of a voluntary carbon offset with more than 1700 VCS programs validated to date against a rigorous set of rules and requirements.

This standard affirms that our projects are grenerating measurable, trackable, permanent, additional and independently verified reductions in carbon emissions that would not have occurred without revenue generated from the offset.

In the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector, REDD+ projects activities which can be verified under the VCS includes:

Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR)

Improved Forest Management (IFM)

Avoided Conversion of Grasslands and Shrublands (ACoGS)

Agricultural Land Management (ALM)

Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD)

Wetlands Restoration and Conservation (WRC)

Our projects will also be certified by Verra’s Climate, Community & Biodiversity (CCB) Standards. CCB identifies projects that simultaneously address climate change, support communities, and conserve biodiversity by ensuring that projects:

For VCS AFOLU projects, CCB certifies that the projects improve livelihoods, create employment, protect traditional cultures and endangered species, help secure tenure to lands and resources, increase the resiliency of ecosystems and help to combat climate change..

Identify all stakeholders and ensure their full and effective participation

Obtain free, prior and informed consent

Identify and maintain high conservation values

Recognize and respect customary and statutory rights

Assess and monitor direct and indirect costs, benefits and risks

Demonstrate net positive climate, community and biodiversity benefits
